About Picture Pen
Picture Pen aims to create images that connect with people. From fine art pieces to portraits, each photograph should have purpose and meaning.
Previously known as PhoneixTail Studios, the studio was re-branded over the Winter of 2015 to become Picture Pen Photography; a name that better fit my desire to share stories through my work.
Currently, I attend three to seven art venues in Portland and its outlying areas each year and specialize in black and white photographic art and portraiture.

My work has also been on display in the past at three local business and was accepted into Gresham City Hall's 2015 Black and White Show.
My name is Michelle,
I began shooting on film with Pentax K1000 at the age of fourteen via the 4H Program. When that particular program was discontinued a year later, I pursued photography on my own, always with a focus on still life. Though, my passion became less of a priority as school and new job opportunities took up more and more time.
In 2007, however, my husband surprised me with a new camera after discovering my original Pentax, now dead from years of heavy use, tucked away in a closet. Immediately, I was shooting every moment I was able and was soon offering portrait work and submitting to local art shows; it was then I knew I wanted to spend my working career behind a camera.
The Fall of 2010 arrived and marked the end of my career as a Barista as I quit my job and began my education for photography at Mt. Hood Community College. A month into my first term, we discovered that I was pregnant with our son. I continued both my camera work and my education until two months before giving birth. Six months after our son was born, I was back to working on both art shows and photography projects.
In 2013 I officially branded my work under the name of PhoenixTail Studios and began attending The Art Institute of Portland a year later. in 2015 I made the decision to re-brand as Picture Pen Photography and also decided to step away from pursuing my BA for a time while homeschooling our son through his early years.
Currently, I continue to work in the freelance photography industry, specializing in both black and white fine art and portraiture. I also shoot products and events for small local businesses in addition to selling some of my imagery in the stock photography market.
